Position Title: Level 2 Network Infrastructure Technician

Job Summary:

The Level 2 Network Infrastructure Technician is a skilled technical professional responsible for managing, supporting, and maintaining the organization's network infrastructure. This role involves advanced troubleshooting, configuration, and optimization of network devices, as well as providing technical guidance to Level 1 technicians. The Level 2 Network Infrastructure Technician collaborates with other IT teams to ensure the stability, security, and performance of the network infrastructure.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and other network devices.
  • Configure, optimize, and upgrade network devices to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Proactively identify and address network issues, such as performance bottlenecks, latency, and connectivity problems.

 

  1. Advanced Troubleshooting and Incident Management:
  • Investigate and resolve complex network-related incidents and problems escalated from Level 1 technicians.
  • Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques, network analysis tools, and logs to diagnose and resolve network issues.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams and vendors to resolve incidents and restore network services promptly.
  1. Network Design and Implementation:
  • Assist in the design and implementation of network infrastructure projects, including network upgrades, expansions, and migrations.
  • Collaborate with network architects and engineers to ensure network designs meet performance, scalability, and security requirements.
  • Configure and deploy network devices based on design specifications and industry best practices.
  1. Network Security and Compliance
  • Implement and maintain network security measures, such as firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems, and access control lists.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and remediate security risks.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as PCI DSS or GDPR, regarding network security. 

 

  1. Documentation and Knowledge Management:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Create and update network diagrams, inventory lists, and technical documentation.
  • Share knowledge and provide training to Level 1 technicians and other IT teams on network infrastructure best practices and procedures.
  1. Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  1. Change Management and Network Planning
  • Follow established change management processes for implementing network changes, including reviewing change requests and conducting impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with network architects and engineers to plan and implement network upgrades, patches, and firmware updates.
  • Conduct network capacity planning to anticipate future growth and ensure scalability of network infrastructure.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology) or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous experience as a Level 2 Network Infrastructure Technician or in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, technologies, and concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols, VPNs).
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools and traffic analysis tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong documentation and technical writing abilities.
